Doha: The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, in collaboration with the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF), has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Qatari Diar to host the prestigious Lusail 3×3 Challenger on May 2–3 at Lusail Boulevard, Al Sadd Plaza.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of Mohammed Saad Al-Mughaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director General of the LOC for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, and Fahad Abdullatif Al Jahrami, Chief Development and Asset Management Officer at Qatari Diar.
The Lusail 3×3 Challenger is an internationally recognized basketball tournament that will bring together some of the world’s top 3×3 teams for an electrifying competition in the heart of Qatar.
A total of 16 teams from 11 different countries will compete, including elite squads such as Toulouse (France), Liman and Partizan (Serbia), Carolina (Puerto Rico), NY Harlem (USA), Lugano (Switzerland), Kandava (Latvia), Kaunas (Lithuania), Marbella (Spain), Kigali (Rwanda), Nishinomiya (Japan), along with five representative teams from Qatar: Al Wakrah, Al Rayyan, Doha, Al Gharafa, and Al Khor.
This event will serve as a significant milestone on the Road to 2027, aiming to boost community engagement, encourage youth participation, and widen global visibility for the sport leading up to the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The agreement underscores a strategic initiative to reach new audiences while building momentum for the upcoming World Cup tournament.
Set against the dynamic backdrop of Lusail’s cityscape and the innovative urban development led by Qatari Diar, the Lusail 3×3 Challenger is poised to deliver a unique combination of top-tier athletic competition and unforgettable fan experiences.
