Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) has significantly expanded its influence in women’s golf by becoming the title sponsor of a newly revamped international tournament series on the Ladies European Tour (LET). Now named the PIF Global Series, this revamped initiative spans five tournaments across three continents and offers a combined prize purse of $13 million—making it one of the largest financial commitments in women’s golf outside the major championships.
A Revitalized Global Series
Replacing the former Aramco Team Series, this new structure brings increased visibility and enhanced prize money. The 2025 PIF Global Series features the following events:
- PIF Saudi Ladies International – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
- Aramco Korea Championship – Seoul, South Korea
- PIF Championship – London, UK
- Aramco Houston Championship – Houston, USA
- Aramco Shenzhen Championship – Shenzhen, China
The series’ crown jewel, the PIF Saudi Ladies International, takes place in February at Riyadh Golf Club and offers a $5 million purse. Each of the other four events features prize money of $2 million per tournament.
Innovative Format
Every tournament features both team and individual competitions. The team format consists of 26 teams of four professional players, with the top two scores per hole contributing to the team’s total score. Played over two days, the team event offers a $500,000 prize fund. The individual competition, conducted over three days in a stroke-play format, holds a purse of $1.5 million.
A key change from previous editions is the removal of amateur players from the team events. This shift allows more professional athletes to compete, enhancing the skill level and overall visibility of the series.
Fostering Growth and Opportunity
This substantial investment by PIF signals a firm commitment to empowering women in sport. It not only elevates the quality of competition but also increases access to financial incentives and global exposure for LET players. Many in the golf community—including players and officials—have praised the changes for boosting the professional experience and for fostering a more competitive environment.
The refreshed format is expected to serve as a strong inspiration for future female golfers and to bolster the global profile of women’s golf.
Expanding Global Reach
PIF’s entry into women’s golf is part of its wider strategy of investing in global sports and promoting inclusivity. The fund has also supported initiatives in women’s tennis and other international sports, aiming to create a long-lasting, transformative impact across various athletic disciplines.
With the launch of the PIF Global Series, women’s golf enters a bold new chapter marked by enhanced opportunity, increased visibility, and record-breaking financial rewards—all contributing to setting new benchmarks for the sport and its athletes.
