Dubai to Host 2025 Asian Youth Para Games in December
The city of Dubai is gearing up to welcome the region’s top young Paralympic athletes as it hosts the 5th Asian Youth Para Games from December 7 to 14, 2025. The prestigious event will be held under the patronage of Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council.
The countdown to the continent’s largest multi-sport event for young para-athletes has officially commenced with the signing of the host city contract between the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) and the Dubai Club for People of Determination, which will serve as the Local Organising Committee (LOC).
The agreement was formally sealed during a ceremony at the APC headquarters in Dubai, with His Excellency Majid Al Usaimi, President of the APC, and His Excellency Thani Juma Berregad, Chairman of the Dubai Club for People of Determination, signing on behalf of their respective organisations.
This marks the second time Dubai will host the Games, having previously held the event in 2017. The 2025 edition will feature athletes competing in 11 sports, and it comes as a response to the withdrawal of Tashkent, the original host city, from staging the Games, which were initially planned for October.
During the signing ceremony, Majid Al Usaimi remarked: “This stance demonstrates the UAE and Dubai’s commitment to supporting the People of Determination across all sectors.” He expressed gratitude to Sheikh Mansoor for his timely intervention and unwavering support to ensure the Games go ahead, reflecting the emirate’s dedication to inclusion and sporting excellence.
He also commended the Dubai Club for People of Determination, stating that the LOC’s initiative to take over the hosting of this significant Asian event under challenging circumstances reflects “its full commitment to the development of the international Paralympic movement”.
Dubai’s hosting of the 2025 Asian Youth Para Games is expected to not only provide a platform for emerging para-athletes but also to reinforce the city’s growing reputation as a global hub for inclusive sports and diversity-driven initiatives.
