Isaac del Toro Clinches Tour of Austria Title After Dominant Week
FELDKIRCH, 11th July, 2025 – Isaac del Toro captured overall victory at the Tour of Austria on Sunday, donning the coveted red jersey with a performance highlighted by three consecutive stage wins. The 21-year-old Mexican, representing UAE Team Emirates-XRG, rode confidently in the reduced peloton on the final day, capping a triumphant campaign for the Emirati squad.
Del Toro’s triumph marks the second general classification title of his professional career and increments the team’s season total to 62 victories. His overall success was constructed through back-to-back wins in stages 2, 3, and 4, after a strong opening victory by teammate Felix Großschartner, who claimed stage 1 with a solo attack.
The closing day saw Ineos Grenadiers’ Bob Jungels claim the stage win from a breakaway, while UAE Team Emirates-XRG’s Florian Vermeersch took third place in the sprint. Teammate Rafał Majka maintained consistency throughout the race, securing third overall, with Großschartner landing in 10th position in the general classification.
By successfully defending the Tour of Austria title they earned in 2024, the Emirati team completed the five-day race with a tally of five stage victories. Del Toro expressed gratitude to teammates Filippo Baroncini, Alessandro Covi, and Julius Johansen for their critical support.
Del Toro:
“I am pretty happy and excited because the team did a crazy good job during the whole week,” said Del Toro. “Florian did third [on the final stage], and all the other stages went crazy for us. We can be proud of what we did this week and super happy.”
Meanwhile, at the Tour de France, UAE Team Emirates-XRG encountered disappointment as João Almeida withdrew following a crash on stage 7 and subsequent injuries that forced him to abandon at stage 9. The Portuguese climber‘s early departure was a loss for the team, which extended best wishes for his speedy recovery.
