West Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship 2025: Day-by-Day Recap
Manama, Bahrain – July 17–27, 2025
The West Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship unfolded in Manama, Bahrain, bringing together the region’s elite volleyball nations in a showcase of rising talent, fierce competition, and national pride. Over ten days, teams from the Gulf and surrounding countries battled it out for regional supremacy at the prestigious Isa bin Rashid Arena.
Days 5 to 10 – July 21 to 27, 2025: Eyes on the Final
With early results in, teams like Qatar, Bahrain, and UAE are emerging as clear frontrunners heading into the second round. Bahrain, buoyed by their home support and recent title at the AVC Nations Cup, are determined to reach the finals. Qatar, on the other hand, continue to show the kind of form that makes them one of the strongest teams in the continent. The knockout rounds promise to be tightly contested, with possible rematches between regional giants on the horizon.
The championship will culminate in the gold medal match on July 27, where the top two teams will face off for the ultimate regional crow
Day 4 – July 20, 2025: Second Day of Group Action
Qatar returned to the court and further solidified their status as title favorites by defeating Oman 3–1 (25–19, 25–16, 22–25, 25–21). Although they dropped a set, Qatar’s composure and depth allowed them to close out the match decisively and qualify for the second round with two wins in two days.
In another standout match, the UAE made a strong impression by sweeping Jordan 3–0 (25–18, 28–26, 25–20). The second set proved to be a test of nerves, but UAE held firm and carried momentum through to the third, impressing with their control and communication on court.
The biggest surprise of the day came when Oman outplayed Kuwait, claiming a 3–0 win (25–23, 25–20, 25–21). Oman’s quick attacks and strong serve-receive game disrupted Kuwait’s rhythm throughout. For Kuwait, it was a disappointing result after weeks of overseas preparation, and they now face an uphill battle in the group stage.
Day 2 – July 18, 2025: Final Training Sessions and Strategy Setting
Final training sessions were held across the venue, with focus intensifying. Kuwait arrived from a high-altitude training camp in Tunisia, aiming to bring fresh tactical ideas into play. Bahrain’s squad, enjoying home court advantage, conducted closed drills to perfect their rotations and transitions. The build-up was full of anticipation for a tournament many predicted would be the most competitive in recent history.
Meanwhile, in Group A, host nation Bahrain thrilled their home fans by defeating Lebanon 3–0 (25–17, 25–20, 25–21). The Bahraini squad’s fast-paced offense and enthusiastic crowd energy were key to the victory, setting the tone for their title ambitions.
Day 1 – July 17, 2025: Arrival and Opening Preparations
The opening day saw the arrival of national teams from Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, the UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia. As athletes settled in, teams began light training and walkthroughs at the competition venue. Coaches took the opportunity to finalize strategies and observe the facilities, while fans eagerly awaited the start of group play.
