Marco Penge Crowned Closing Swing Champion on DP World Tour After Victory in Denmark
English golfer Marco Penge has emerged as the Closing Swing champion on the DP World Tour after a thrilling victory at the Made in Denmark Championship. This latest triumph marks Penge’s second win of the season, following his earlier success at the Hainan Championship in China back in April.
The Closing Swing consists of six tournaments, including two each in Scotland and the United States, along with one tournament apiece in Northern Ireland and Denmark. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, Penge accumulated a total of 1,051 points during this segment of the tour.
Alongside the trophy, Penge secured an additional $200,000 in prize money and qualified for the prestigious “Back 9” series. This series features nine of the season’s top tournaments over the next two months, culminating in the highly anticipated “DP World Tour Play-Offs” in the UAE—with back-to-back events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to crown the overall “Race to Dubai” champion.
At the Made in Denmark Championship, Penge finished at 16 under par after a tight contest with Danish golfer Rasmus Højgaard, who finished just one shot behind at 15 under par. Højgaard’s performance earned him 389 points, elevating him to 37th in the “Race to Dubai” rankings with a total of 790 points, and strengthening his prospects for qualification for the Finals—limited to the season’s top 70 players.
This year, the DP World Tour spans the globe under the “Race to Dubai” banner, featuring at least 42 tournaments across 26 countries and multiple continents. The battle for the top spots will continue as players strive to finish in the top 70 of the Race to Dubai rankings to qualify for the Finals, beginning with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship at Yas Links from 6th to 9th November. The stakes will rise further as the top 50 advance to the DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates from 13th to 16th November, where the coveted season title will be decided.
