Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), met the university’s football team at Expo Centre Sharjah following their qualification for the University World Cup in Dalian, China, scheduled from 17 to 28 September.
During the meeting, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed praised the team’s performance in the local university league, highlighting their championship win as a critical achievement that secured their place in the upcoming World Cup. He emphasised the significance of the team representing the United Arab Emirates on the global stage, acknowledging their success as a result of dedication, hard work, and commitment both on and off the field.
He wished the team success in the tournament and encouraged them to aim for results that would showcase the UAE’s ongoing sporting progress. In his advice, he urged the players to uphold ethics and sportsmanship, and to act as exemplary ambassadors for the university.
The players, along with the coaching and administrative staff, expressed their gratitude for the reception from Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed, noting that his acknowledgement serves as a strong motivation to elevate their performance and honour the University of Sharjah as a representative of UAE universities.
The University World Cup will feature 16 of the strongest university teams from around the world, providing a valuable stage for international competition and player development. According to the tournament draw, the University of Sharjah will be competing in a group alongside teams from Brazil, Ghana, and Spain.
