Pavel Sivakov Claims Impressive Second at Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec
QUÉBEC, Canada, 13th September, 2025 – In the first of two Canadian one-day cycling Classics that signal the late-season flurry on the circuit, Pavel Sivakov of UAE Team Emirates-XRG delivered a powerful performance to secure second place at the prestigious Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec.
Sivakov positioned himself strongly in an elite group vying for top honours on Canada’s east coast. The decisive moment came on the concluding climb when Julian Alaphilippe of Tudor Pro Cycling executed his race-winning move, outpacing his rivals to claim victory.
The two-time world champion made his move on the lower slopes of the final ascent, leaving Sivakov to fight for the runner-up spot against Alberto Bettiol of XDS Astana Team. After an arduous day lasting over five hours in the saddle on Friday evening, Sivakov out-sprinted Bettiol to finish as the best-placed rider behind Alaphilippe.
The race also featured the return of current world champion Tadej Pogačar to competition following the Tour de France. Pogačar impressed with an attacking display, signaling his form ahead of the upcoming challenge at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal. Montréal’s event will wrap up the short block of Canadian racing this weekend.
