Dhofar Face Sohar in Title Showdown Today
The curtain falls on the 2025 First Division Hockey League on Tuesday, with an electrifying final clash between Dhofar and Sohar scheduled for 7 PM at the Hockey Oman Stadium in Al Amerat. Prior to the main event, Nizwa will take on Masirah at 5 PM in the third-place playoff, setting the stage for a full evening of high-intensity hockey action.
Dhofar’s Road to the Final
Dhofar stormed into the final with a dominant 5-1 victory over Masirah, showcasing attacking flair and tactical discipline. They struck early when Majid Bayt Rajboon finished a well-organised attack in just the fifth minute, ending the first quarter 1-0.
Though Masirah responded quickly in the 18th minute with Khalid al Balushi firing in an equaliser, Dhofar hit back instantly. Anas al Wahibi reclaimed the lead for Dhofar within the same minute, shifting momentum firmly in their favour. The pressure didn’t let up as Akram Ashour extended the gap to 3-1 by the 28th minute, concluding the second quarter with confidence.
The third quarter saw Ashour bag his second goal, pushing Dhofar’s lead to 4-1. In the final stretch, Saleh al Wahibi added the fifth goal in the 45th minute after a swift counterattack, confirming Dhofar’s place in the final and stamping their credentials as potential champions.
Sohar’s Dominance Over Nizwa
Sohar delivered an equally impressive performance in their semifinal, posting a 4-0 shutout against Nizwa. The team took control in the opening minutes, with Omar al Maamari finding the net in the 10th minute following a brilliant solo effort. Five minutes later, Wael Sanjoor doubled the advantage by capitalising on a defensive lapse, giving Sohar a healthy 2-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
They carried on the momentum when Ahmed al Shibli added a third goal in the 27th minute, with Nizwa finding it difficult to keep pace. The game settled in the third quarter, but Sohar remained firmly in control.
The victory was sealed when Yaqoub al Amri converted a penalty corner in the 47th minute, rounding off a clinical display and sending Sohar into the final brimming with confidence.
With both teams at the top of their game, today’s final promises to be a thrilling encounter for the title.
