OTA Concludes 2025 Junior Boys & Girls Tourney on Bright Note The Oman Tennis Association (OTA) successfully wrapped up the 2025 edition of the Junior Boys and Girls Tennis Championship on a positive note on Wednesday at the tennis courts of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. The event drew strong competition with the participation of 65 players in multiple age categories, underscoring the growing momentum of youth tennis in the country. Hassan Mohammed Taqi, Treasurer of OTA, presented medals to the winners during the concluding award ceremony. In the Under-14 Boys final, Abdulrahman al Rahbi clinched the title with an emphatic 9-2 win over Richard. In the Under-8 Boys category, Fayyad al Hilali secured first place by overcoming Ali al Riyami with a score of 6-4. The U9 Boys final featured a close contest, with Omar al Shaibani edging past Hatim al Rahbi 6-4. Notably, the same duo met again in the U10 Boys final, where Omar al Shaibani repeated his triumph with the same 6-4 scoreline. In the Under-14 Girls category, Areen al Azkawi emerged victorious in a tough battle against Talia al Busaidy, securing a 9-7 win. Meanwhile, in the U18 Mixed division, Ahmed Ehab captured the crown with a commanding 9-2 win over Richard. Quoted:“This monthly championship is a vital platform for nurturing players’ skills and preparing them for future representation in national teams. Several of our national squad members competed and showcased strong performances and this reflects the depth of talent we have,” said Hassan Mohammed Taqi. He added: “The OTA gives great importance to youth categories as they represent the future of Omani tennis. Our players have already delivered promising results in international events, and we have high hopes for them in upcoming competitions. These local tournaments are essential preparation steps and opportunities for coaches to identify emerging talents.” Tournament Director Faisal al Balushi acknowledged the valuable collaboration and commitment from the participants. Quoted:“The championship was managed effectively by the OTA coaching staff, whose efforts were crucial to its success. We congratulate all the winners, and we are confident these competitions will further prepare our national team players for upcoming international assignments. More similar events are scheduled later this month and next month, offering participants ranking points that will enhance the local classification system,” he said.
