Bahrain Secures Bronze Medal at Arab Cycling Championship

Bahrain’s under-19 cycling team has claimed a hard-fought bronze medal in the team road race at the prestigious Arab Road Cycling Championship, which was held in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate from October 3 to 13. The event brought together elite cyclists from across the Arab world, competing across multiple divisions including men’s, youth, juniors, women’s, and girls’ categories.

The Bahraini contingent delivered a standout performance during the fiercely competitive U-19 race. The national youth team, comprising Mohammed Hassan Jawad, Humood Awad Al Farhan, and Abdulaziz Saleh Al Hamri, rode with exceptional discipline and tactical precision. Their efforts saw them power to third place amid stiff competition from the region’s top riders.

The strong finish is a clear indication of the team’s technical capabilities and growing prowess on the continental stage. The performance also affirms Bahrain’s long-term investment in nurturing the next generation of cyclists.

The Bahraini delegation was spearheaded by Sayed Shubber Hilal Al Wedaei, Secretary General of the Bahrain Cycling Association. Supporting the riders were an experienced team of managers and technicians including Aqeel Abdulameer Mohammed (men’s team manager), Fares Hussain (youth team manager), and Issa Ayoob (cycling technician).

Also representing Bahrain in the various categories were: for the men’s team — Ahmed Nasser, Ahmed Abdulghani, Mahdi Hassan, and Sayed Ahmed Khalil; for the youth team — Mohammed Hassan Jawad, Amer Saleh Al Khassham, Humood Awad Al Farhan, and Abdulaziz Saleh Al Hamri; and in the juniors, Hassan Aqeel Thamer.

“This achievement is a major milestone for Bahraini cycling, reflecting its growing competitiveness and motivating further regional and international success,” said Al Wedaei. He praised the athletes’ performance and credited the success to ongoing national efforts to promote competitive cycling.

Al Wedaei further acknowledged the role of the “Khalid bin Hamad Gold Generation League”, an initiative spearheaded by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee. According to Al Wedaei, the initiative continues to bear fruit, as evidenced by the team’s promising performance in the championship.

The team now continues its campaign with renewed determination to achieve further podium finishes and enhance Bahrain’s reputation on the Arab cycling circuit.
