Fleetwood and Lowry Headline Star-Studded Line-Up for Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship
European Ryder Cup heroes Tommy Fleetwood and Shane Lowry are the latest prominent names to confirm their participation in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, scheduled from 6-9 November at Yas Links.
The celebrated duo will compete alongside reigning Masters Champion and career grand slam winner Rory McIlroy, as well as other 2025 Ryder Cup stars including Ludvig Åberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmus Højgaard, Robert MacIntyre, and vice captain Alex Noren. Together, they form a world-class field in the opening event of the DP World Tour Play-Offs on Yas Island.
Currently ranked World Number Five, Fleetwood—who previously clinched the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship titles in 2017 and 2018—arrives in the UAE with extraordinary momentum. His form is highlighted by a victory at the DP World India Championship, thanks to a final round 65 that secured a two-stroke win over Keita Nakajima. This marked Fleetwood’s eighth DP World Tour title.
The 34-year-old has enjoyed a career-defining season, crowned by his emotional maiden PGA TOUR victory at the TOUR Championship in August, where he also captured the FedExCup. Fleetwood became only the second Englishman to win the season-long trophy, following Justin Rose.
Fleetwood’s stellar performances continued at the 2025 Ryder Cup, where he was Europe’s standout player in a dramatic 15-13 victory over the United States at Bethpage Black in New York—the first time an away team has triumphed since 2012. Fleetwood delivered when it mattered most, winning four matches and suffering just one defeat, finishing as the leading points scorer in the biennial contest.
Tommy Fleetwood said, “It’s always special to play at home in the UAE and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is a tournament I look forward to every year. Yas Links is a great golf course and the atmosphere is always incredible. I’ve had some great memories here over the years, and starting the DP World Tour Play-Offs in front of family and friends gives me that extra bit of motivation to finish the season on a high.”
Shane Lowry stirred emotional scenes at Bethpage Black by securing the crucial half-point that retained the Ryder Cup for Europe during a tense Sunday singles session. The 38-year-old brings a history of success in the UAE, notably his 2019 victory at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, which set the stage for his iconic Open Championship win at Royal Portrush the same year.
Thanks to his role in Luke Donald’s historic European Ryder Cup team, Lowry is guaranteed a place in the penultimate Rolex Series event of the season, competing among the leading 70 players on the Race to Dubai Rankings.
Shane Lowry stated, “Abu Dhabi has always been a great place to play golf and I’m really looking forward to being back at Yas Links in a few weeks. The DP World Tour Play-Offs are always an exciting end to our season and it’s great to have the opportunity to compete against some of the best players in the world. I’ll be giving it everything to finish the year on a high.”
Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the DP World Tour, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship stands as the first event of the Tour’s end-of-season showcase. It leads directly into the DP World Tour Championship, where the Race to Dubai champion will be decided.
The top 70 available players on the Race to Dubai will battle it out at Yas Links for the tournament’s 20th edition in 2025. The top 50 will then earn the chance to compete at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai the following week.
