UAE Athletics Team Secures Four Medals at Asian Youth Games in Bahrain
The UAE Athletics Team has boosted the nation’s standing at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, increasing its medal tally to four — two gold, one silver, and one bronze. These achievements have propelled the UAE to eighth place overall and first among Arab nations.
UAE sprinter Arwa Ali clinched the gold medal in the 100 metres, clocking an astonishing 11.45 seconds. This time stands as the fastest ever recorded in the history of the Asian Youth Games and marks the third time Arwa Ali set a new record during this tournament across all rounds. The silver medal went to Qatar’s Dana Salem with 11.60 seconds, while China’s Yan Shinyi earned the bronze in 11.79 seconds.
In the women’s 400-metre race, Aisha Mohammed delivered a compelling performance to secure gold for the UAE with a time of 54.25 seconds. The silver medalist was India’s Jason Edina at 55.43 seconds, and Wu Xia Ying from Chinese Taipei claimed bronze in 56.60 seconds.
The men’s 400-metre race saw UAE athlete Saeed Omar claim the silver medal, clocking 47.18 seconds. China’s Jia Yang captured gold with 46.57 seconds, while Sri Lanka’s Costa Shanuka secured bronze in 47.72 seconds.
Making history for the UAE, Mohammed Adel Al Ali nabbed the bronze medal in the hammer throw with a distance of 62.03 metres. This achievement marks the UAE’s first-ever medal in this event at the Asian Youth Games.
The medal ceremony was attended by Ahad Mohammed bin Kerdous Al Ameri, UAE Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as Major General Dr Mohammed Al Mur, Member of the Board of Directors of the National Olympic Committee and President of the Athletics Federation.
