Kazma Outplays Muharraq to Open the West Asia Super League Campaign
Kazma Club delivered a dominant performance to open its West Asia Super League (WASL) Gulf Zone campaign, beating Bahrain’s Muharraq with a final score of 95-81. The electrifying matchup took place at the Kuwait Basketball Association Hall inside the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. The game was a critical Group A fixture, which also includes Shabab Al-Ahli (UAE) and Al-Ittihad Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
With the victory, Kazma surged to the top of Group A thanks to point difference, edging ahead of Al-Ittihad, who also began their campaign with a win. Meanwhile, Muharraq fell to the bottom of the standings with a single point, trailing behind Sharjah, who were outplayed by Al-Ittihad in their opening encounter.
Kazma’s head coach, Bojan Lazic of Slovenia, expressed confidence in his squad’s performance and resilience, stating:
“It was a great and important victory – an ideal start to a significant tournament. We can build on this positive momentum throughout the season. There were many positives and only a few negatives, which we’ll work to improve moving forward.”
The Gulf Zone of the WASL features a total of eight elite teams divided into two groups. Group A comprises Kazma, Muharraq, Shabab Al-Ahli, and Al-Ittihad Jeddah. In Group B, the competition includes Kuwait Club, Sharjah (UAE), Al-Arabi (Qatar), and Al-Ula (Saudi Arabia).
According to the tournament format, the top team from each group will gain a direct berth to the semifinals. Meanwhile, sides finishing second and third will engage in playoff qualifiers to determine the other semifinalists.
Kazma’s statement win sets the tone for an exciting season ahead and reinforces their intent to be serious contenders in this year’s WASL Gulf Zone competition.
