Islamic Solidarity Games Riyadh 2025: Qatar Swimmers Impress
Qatar’s swimmers continued to shine at the Islamic Solidarity Games Riyadh 2025, putting on impressive performances in the pool on Sunday.
Leading the charge, Mohammed Mahmoud narrowly missed a medal in the men’s 200m individual medley, finishing fourth with a time of 2:05.69—just 0.62 seconds off the bronze. Mahmoud also turned in a solid effort in the 100m breaststroke, where he placed seventh.
Meanwhile, Ali Tamer displayed sprinting prowess by securing fourth place in the 50m freestyle, clocking 22.72 seconds, a mere 0.15 seconds shy of a podium finish.
The Al Annabi swimmers continue their campaigns today. Tamer will compete in the 100m freestyle, Hamza Shaalan takes on the 200m breaststroke, and Aziz Al-Jilani looks to leave his mark in the 200m butterfly.
Outside the pool, Qatar’s men’s table tennis team was eliminated in the quarter-finals after a loss to Kazakhstan. In judo, Haya Al Kuwari exited the under-70kg competition during the repechage round, ending her medal hopes.
On the court, the men’s volleyball team faces a key encounter today against hosts Saudi Arabia before concluding the group stage on Wednesday against Bahrain.
The Islamic Solidarity Games feature more than 3,000 athletes from 57 nations, competing across 23 sports. Qatar has sent a committed delegation of 82 athletes participating in 16 disciplines, showcasing its continued investment in competitive sport at the regional level.
