UAE Muay Thai National Team Triumphs with Three Medals at Islamic Solidarity Games
The UAE Muay Thai national team delivered a stellar performance at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, clinching three medals among renowned competitors. With over 3,000 athletes from 57 countries participating across 14 sports, the UAE contingent continues to shine on the international stage.
Standout athlete Mohammed Mardi secured the gold medal in the 65–70kg category after a series of intense matches. In the 50–55kg division, Zainab Bu Hamada brought home silver, while Ilyas Habibali Ali captured bronze in the 75–80kg category.
This achievement brings the UAE’s total medal count to 11, surpassing their previous tally of 10 medals at the last edition in Konya, Türkiye. Currently, the UAE holds 15th place in the overall standings with two gold, one silver, and eight bronze medals. Türkiye dominates the medal table with 105 medals, followed by Uzbekistan with 49. Among Arab nations, Egypt leads in fifth place with 29 medals.
Reflecting on his journey to gold, Mohammed Mardi shared, “The path to gold required overcoming demanding bouts, adding that raising the UAE flag provided his greatest motivation.” He expressed gratitude towards the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, coaches, and delegation members for their support.
Abdullah Saeed Al Neyadi, Vice President of the International Federation of Muay Thai and President of the Asian, Arab and UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federations, commended the national team, stating their impressive results demonstrate the sport’s growth and the athletes’ dedication. He observed that these successes stem from a focused national strategy, further recognizing the crucial contributions of technical staff, administrators, and families.
Al Neyadi emphasized that these accomplishments serve as an “important milestone for the UAE’s national teams and offer strong momentum for developing young talent and reinforcing the country’s position as a global hub for martial arts.”
