Matt Fitzpatrick Claims Third DP World Tour Championship Title in Dubai; Rory McIlroy Clinches Seventh Race to Dubai Crown
DUBAI, 16th November, 2025 – The DP World Tour Championship reached a thrilling conclusion at the Jumeirah Golf Estates as England’s Matt Fitzpatrick was crowned champion for the third time in the tournament’s history. H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, presented the trophy to Fitzpatrick after a display of exceptional skill and composure. Simultaneously, Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland received the Race to Dubai title for a record seventh time, marking another milestone in his illustrious career and closing out a successful end to the 2025 European Tour season.
The final event of the season brought together the top 50 players in the Race to Dubai standings, with the four-day competition culminating in a dramatic playoff between Fitzpatrick and McIlroy. The trophy ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Khalfan Belhoul, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Abdullah Al Hashmi, Abdulla bin Damithan, Guy Kinnings, and Eric Nicoli, reflecting the importance of the championship on the global golfing calendar.
With this victory, Fitzpatrick secured his third DP World Tour Championship title following previous wins in 2016 and 2020. A flawless final round of 66, bringing his total to 18 under par, showcased his determination and resilience, particularly against the pressure from McIlroy. The contest intensified as McIlroy eagled the final hole to force a playoff. However, a wayward tee shot into the penalty area during the first extra hole enabled Fitzpatrick to seal victory with a composed par finish.
Although McIlroy narrowly missed out on the championship, he celebrated a major seasonal triumph by clinching his fourth consecutive and seventh overall Race to Dubai crown. This achievement edges him closer to Colin Montgomerie’s all-time record of eight titles.
The championship also saw Tommy Fleetwood, Ludvig Åberg, Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, and Laurie Canter sharing third place at 17 under par, following one of the most tightly contested events of the season.
Having overcome struggles earlier in the year, Fitzpatrick found form mid-season with a string of strong performances, culminating in this prestigious win.
Fitzpatrick: “This title means a lot to me. I didn’t make a single mistake today, and it was one of my best rounds of the year. I’m incredibly proud of my performance and grateful for the support of my team, family, and friends through difficult moments. Ending the season this way is truly special.”
McIlroy: “I felt I had a great week. I came close to winning today, but I’m very pleased with how I played. Winning the Race to Dubai again means a great deal, and it’s a reward for the consistency and work throughout the season.”
