Dubai Prepares to Host Inaugural Women’s Triathlon World Cup with Elite Line-Up
Dubai is set to witness a landmark moment in international sports as it hosts its first-ever Women’s Triathlon World Cup on December 7, 2025. This much-anticipated event, organized by the Dubai Sports Council in collaboration with World Triathlon and the UAE Triathlon Federation, will unfold across the scenic Dubai Islands. The event marks a significant milestone within the Sheikha Hind Sports Initiative, a key component of the emirate’s Dubai Sports Plan 2033.
A distinguished field of elite Olympic triathletes has been confirmed by World Triathlon, with additional athletes expected to join in the coming days. Leading the pack is Olympic champion Gwen Rosemary Jorgensen of the United States, a Rio gold medallist and two-time world champion renowned for her speed and dominance in women’s triathlon. Jorgensen’s career highlights include multiple World Cup victories and recognition as one of the sport’s fastest runners.
Joining Jorgensen in Dubai is world champion Hanna Maksimava, who recently clinched the 2025 Aquathlon World Championship gold medal in Pontevedra, Spain, and has shown consistent form in events such as the Asian Cup in Borabay, Kazakhstan.
Another standout among the competitors is Margot Garabedian of Cambodia. Garabedian boasts eight international titles, including the 2021 Aquathlon World Championship gold in Spain, with an impressive record of more than 77 international appearances and 15 podium finishes at the global level.
From Spain, Noelia Juan—one of the most decorated triathletes on the World Triathlon Cup stage—adds to the championship’s depth with two World Triathlon Cup golds in Valencia and Huatulco, boasting 15 podiums and several major international victories.
The roster continues with Valentina Riasova, winner of the 2025 World Triathlon Cup title and a consistent presence among the world’s top ten competitors. Also representing Spain is Alejandra Seghi, who brings multiple national titles in junior and U23 categories, two international wins, and a track record of seven podiums across 43 professional races, including several top-20 finishes in recent World Championship events.
Spectators can experience the excitement firsthand from designated viewing zones along the Dubai Islands course. The event will also be broadcast live on Dubai Sports Channel, complemented by extensive digital coverage through the official International Olympic Committee channel, affirming Dubai’s status as a global hub for major sporting events.
The Chair of the Organising Committee, Hessa Al Kous, emphasized the strategic importance of this event, stating it represents, “a strategic step that reflects the emirate’s commitment to driving forward pioneering sports initiatives.” She further highlighted the significance of attracting world-class competitors to Dubai’s inaugural event, noting, “This strengthens the presence of women’s sport, enhances the nation’s position on the global competition map, expands opportunities for sports tourism, and offers the public an exceptional experience that brings together sport and urban spectacle.”
The championship will feature competition across all three triathlon disciplines—swimming, cycling, and running—with five distinct categories: Individual Professionals, Individual Sprint for Amateurs (750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run), Individual Super Sprint for age groups and beginners (400m swim, 10km cycle, 2.5km run), and a Team category where three athletes each compete in different disciplines within the Sprint and Super Sprint distances.
Dubai’s inaugural Women’s Triathlon World Cup is poised to set new benchmarks for international women’s sport and reinforce the city’s reputation as a center for athletic excellence and innovation.
