Oman Leads the Way in Fencing at AWST 2026, Dominating Team Medal Standings
SHARJAH, 4th February, 2026 – The eighth Arab Women Sports Tournament (AWST 2026) concluded its team fencing competitions with a remarkable performance by Oman, who topped the overall medal standings. The tournament, organised by Sharjah Women’s Sports, showcased intense competition in épée, sabre, and foil categories, reinforcing the growing presence and excellence of Gulf nations, particularly Oman.
A diverse field of seven clubs from six countries participated, including the UAE’s Fujairah Martial Arts Club and Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, Bahrain’s Albusaiteen Sport Club, Saudi Alula Club, Syria’s Damascus Club, Kuwait Fencing Association Academy, and Oman’s Salalah Club.
Oman surged to first place with the Salalah team, which accumulated an impressive tally of three gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, dominating the team events and solidifying its position as a regional fencing powerhouse.
Saudi Arabia followed in second place, with the Alula Club securing three gold, two silver, and one bronze medals. The UAE, represented by the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, earned third place with one silver and three bronze medals. Bahrain’s Albusaiteen Sport Club ranked fourth, winning one silver and one bronze, and Kuwait Fencing Association Academy placed fifth, with two bronze medals.
In team épée, the Omani Salalah team—comprising Salma Al Dighaishi, Ghzal Al Fulaiti, Jana Al Sharji, and Israa Al Siyabi—clinched gold. The AlUla Club team from Saudi Arabia, with Fawzya Alkhubiri, Dhay Alamiri, Danah Alqassem, and Ahad Muammar, took silver, while the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club team of Fajar Almarzooqi, Zainab Al-Hossany, Lamar Alnahla, and Sheikha Alzaabi secured bronze.
The sabre events saw AlUla Club continue its strong run, earning gold thanks to Alhsna Alhammad, Talene Alkudmani, Ruba Almasri, and Ahad Muammar, boosting Saudi Arabia’s standing. Sharjah Women’s Sports Club finished second with Afra Alblooshi, Mohra Abdullah, Shama Alsweedy, and Layan Sabet; third place went to Kuwait Fencing Association Academy’s Maryam Alghais, Suhad Alnaqeeb, Farah Alrasheedi, and Aljoud Alsaeed.
In foil, the Salalah team delivered again, as Jana Al Sharji, Salma Al Dighaishi, Israa Al Siyabi, and Ghzal Al Fulaiti claimed another gold for Oman. Bahrain’s Albusaiteen Sport Club finished second with Sumaya Albuainain, Noor Shaikh Ali, Ritej Araoud, and Fatima Zaman, while Sharjah Women’s Sports Club took bronze through Alia Alshaali, Dana Alshamsi, and Zainab Moussa.
On the individual side (which concluded on February 3), Saudi Arabia’s AlUla Club picked up two gold, one silver, and one bronze, for a total of four medals. Oman’s Salalah Club added one gold, two silver, and two bronze in individual competitions, bringing the overall medal haul to five. The Kuwait Fencing Federation Academy, Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, and Bahrain’s Albusaiteen Sport Club each secured a bronze.
The Arab Women’s Sports Tournament continues until 12 February, uniting 65 teams from 16 Arab countries across nine individual and team sports, furthering regional collaboration and the advancement of women’s sport.
