UAE Athletics Women’s Gala 2025: India’s Karishma Sanil clinched the javelin throw title, while Ancy Sojan and Shaili Singh shone in the long jump event in Dubai on Sunday.
At the Dubai Police Club Stadium, the 24-year-old Karishma Sanil secured the javelin title with a top effort of 53.33m, outperforming UAE’s Aliazya Tarek (31.04m) and fellow Indian Harshita Sehrawat (16.77m).
Sanil’s personal best stands at 55.55m. The Indian national record of 63.82m is held by Asian Games champion Annu Rani.
In the women’s long jump, Asian Games silver medallist Ancy Sojan secured second place with a season’s best leap of 6.54m, while Shaili Singh, a silver medallist at the Asian Championships, finished third with a 6.48m leap. The event was topped by Arab Games champion Esraa Owis with 6.66m.
Ancy Sojan’s personal best is 6.71m, while Shaili Singh’s best stands at 6.76m. The Indian women’s long jump national record of 6.83m is held by Anju Bobby George.
Earlier, at the UAE Grand Prix 2025 held at the same venue on Friday, Shaili Singh achieved 6.44m to take second place, while Ancy Sojan came third with a 6.33m effort.
In other track and field events on Sunday, Moumita Mondal of India clocked 24.61s in the 200m race to finish second behind Tamzin Thomas of South Africa, who won in 24.15s.
Meanwhile, India’s Niharika Vashisht recorded a new personal best of 13.58m to claim third position in the women’s triple jump. Sawant Poorva finished fourth with 12.98m. The event was won by Zinzi Xulu (13.75m), with Romania’s Andreea Talos (13.64m) in second place.
