ROME, 2nd June, 2025 – Crossing the finish line in Rome amongst the peloton, Isaac del Toro brought the 2025 Giro d’Italia to a historic close for UAE Team Emirates-XRG. Finishing second overall on his Giro debut, the Mexican rider becomes the second-youngest podium finisher in the race’s history and the first from his country to ever win the Young Rider’s Classification, donning the coveted Maglia Bianca.
Del Toro made history as the first Mexican to wear the white jersey, a symbol of the race’s best young rider, reflecting an impressive list of accomplishments he amassed over the past three weeks.
It has been a stellar race for the 21-year-old and his UAE Team Emirates-XRG teammates. The Emirati squad capped the first Grand Tour of the season with celebration in Rome, winning the prestigious team classification.
The team’s success was highlighted by two stage victories. Juan Ayuso, the Spanish rising star, earned his first Grand Tour stage win on stage 7, taking the victory on the race’s first summit finish. Del Toro finished second on that same stage, showcasing the team’s strength. In the third week, Del Toro clinched his own stage win, confirming his status as one of the sport’s brightest young talents.
Over the course of the race, Del Toro rode with immense maturity, capturing the imagination of fans and bringing Mexico to the forefront of world cycling, with many dreaming of its first full Grand Tour triumph.
In a historic feat, Del Toro surpassed the legendary Fausto Coppi’s record from the 1940 Giro d’Italia, becoming the youngest rider ever to wear the Maglia Rosa – the leader’s pink jersey – for 11 consecutive stages.
UAE Team Emirates-XRG concludes the race with Del Toro on the overall podium, Brandon McNulty in 9th place overall, and an impressive 7th-place finish by Filippo Baroncini on stage 21. From the Grande Partenza in Albania to the triumphant finale in Rome, the team has demonstrated class, depth, and tactical precision across all 21 stages.
