Polish Star Krzysztof Piątek Joins Al-Duhail in €10 Million Move
Polish international striker Krzysztof Piątek has completed a move to Qatari club Al-Duhail for a reported fee of around €10 million, marking the latest chapter in what has become a highly traveled and lucrative career for the 29-year-old.
The switch from İstanbul Başakşehir to the reigning Qatar Stars League runners-up is the fifth big-money move of Piątek’s career. With this transfer, his total accumulated transfer fees now amount to approximately €76.5 million, making him the most expensive Polish footballer in history based on total transfers.
Piątek leaves behind a highly successful stint in Turkey, where he scored 38 goals across two seasons. The 2023/24 campaign saw him finish as the second-highest scorer in the Turkish Süper Lig, reaffirming his reputation as a lethal finisher.
The three-year contract with Al-Duhail marks Piątek’s first foray outside of European football and signifies a new chapter for the classic number nine, who continues to rely on his movement and sharp instincts inside the penalty area to do damage.
Piątek burst onto the European football scene during a sensational half-season at Genoa in Italy, where he netted 13 goals in just a few months in 2018. That explosive form earned him a high-profile €35 million transfer to AC Milan, where he initially impressed but later struggled to maintain consistency.
Subsequently, he joined Hertha Berlin for €27 million, but again endured a stop-start period that led to several loan spells. By the time he joined Başakşehir in 2023—likely for a nominal fee—many had written him off. However, the move proved to be a turning point, with Piątek rediscoving his scoring touch in Turkish football.
Now, at 29, Piątek stands at the summit in terms of transfer value among Polish players. He leads the country’s charts ahead of Arkadiusz Milik, whose combined transfer fees amount to just over €58 million, and Robert Lewandowski, whose total stands at just under €54 million. The relatively lower cumulative fee for Lewandowski, despite his world-class status, is largely due to his free transfer to Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund in 2014.
As he embarks on his Middle Eastern adventure, Al-Duhail will hope that Piątek can continue his sharp form and help lead the line as they bid for domestic and continental honors.
