NBA and Stryx Sports Launch First NBA Basketball School in Qatar
In a landmark move for youth sports development in the region, the National Basketball Association (NBA) has partnered with Stryx Sports, a leading multi-sport program provider, to unveil the first NBA Basketball School in Qatar. This long-term collaboration marks a significant step in expanding basketball infrastructure and training programs in the Middle East.
The NBA Basketball School Qatar will serve youth aged 6 to 18 with a tuition-based basketball development curriculum. The program features comprehensive skills training, 5-on-5 scrimmages, real-game scenarios, and life-skills education to foster both on-court skills and personal growth. Its inaugural activity comes in the form of a summer camp scheduled from Sunday, June 22 to Saturday, June 28 in Doha. Registration for the camp is now live at nbabasketballschoolqatar.com.
“We are very excited about entering the Qatari market with the first NBA Basketball School in the country,” said Stryx Sports CEO Seif Tawfik. “This is another great platform for Stryx Sports to provide unique training and competition programs for all abilities to empower each child to reach their full potential in the sport they love.”
Interest in basketball has surged across the Middle East, bolstered notably by preseason NBA games held in Abu Dhabi beginning in 2022. The expansion to Qatar reflects this upward trend. “Basketball participation in the Middle East has grown more than 50 percent since we began playing preseason NBA games in Abu Dhabi in 2022,” said Henry Utku, NBA Senior Director of Basketball Operations, Europe and Middle East. “Through our collaboration with Stryx Sports, we look forward to providing more opportunities for Qatari youth to learn and play the game through a proven training curriculum.”
The NBA Basketball School curriculum has been crafted by the NBA’s International Basketball Operations department in consultation with current and former NBA coaches, players, and development professionals. It aims to help players, parents, and coaches understand the process of long-term improvement in basketball, going beyond athleticism to include game IQ, teamwork, and leadership.
Since its global debut in 2017, NBA Basketball Schools have launched in more than 20 countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Spain, and the UAE. Stryx Sports already operates the NBA Basketball School Dubai, which began in 2019, and now expands its footprint with this exciting new venture in Qatar.
