Special Olympics MENA Regional Equestrian Competition to Welcome Top Athletes in Al Ain
The Special Olympics International – Middle East and North Africa (MENA) has announced the upcoming participation of top Special Olympics athletes with intellectual disabilities from 11 countries in the prestigious Special Olympics MENA Regional Equestrian Competition. The event is scheduled to take place in the Al Ain Region from 24-28 August 2025.
The event promises a remarkable showcase of talent, bringing together athletes representing the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Iraq, Tunisia, Bahrain, and Iran.
This inaugural competition is being organised by Special Olympics UAE in collaboration with Special Olympics MENA, under the patronage of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi. It is supported by the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ as the hosting partner, alongside the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation as a supporting partner.
The event will feature a series of accompanying activities, aiming to highlight the importance of inclusive sports in the region. According to Engineer Ayman Abdel Wahab, Regional President of Special Olympics MENA, this event is a “pivotal moment and a qualitative step forward” for equestrian sports as it stands out as a prominent model of inclusion for elite Special Olympics athletes with intellectual disabilities participating through 11 national programmes.
