Qatar Claims Double Gold, Silver at Arab Shotgun Championship in Morocco Qatar’s national shooting team achieved significant success at the ongoing Arab Shotgun Championship in Tangier, Morocco, clinching a total of three medals — two golds and one silver — in the skeet events. The championship, which features competitions in both skeet and trap disciplines across men’s, women’s, and mixed team categories, brought together 60 elite shooters from eight countries, including Morocco, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, the UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Oman. The tournament is set to conclude on September 28. Leading Qatar’s impressive start was Rashid Saleh Al Athba, who secured the gold medal in the Men’s Skeet Individual event with a stellar performance. On the women’s side, rising talent Hajar Ghulam Mohammed delivered a top-tier display to clinch gold in the Women’s Skeet Individual competition. Complementing these individual triumphs, the Men’s Skeet Team, composed of Rashid Saleh Al Athba, Mohamed Al Kuwari, and Abdulaziz Al Attiya, delivered a strong showing to bring home the silver medal in the team category. The next phase of the championship — the trap shooting events — will take place from Thursday through Saturday. This segment is expected to further challenge competitors and may offer Qatar more opportunities to add to their medal haul. Ahmed Khaled Al Darwish, Head of the Qatari Delegation and Director of the Skeet Shooting Program, expressed his pride in the team’s achievements, saying: “The shooters were determined to make the podium and proudly unfurl the Qatari flag at this meritorious Arab sporting event,” Al Darwish told Qatar News Agency (QNA), adding, “Securing gold medals in both Men’s and Women’s Individual Skeet, along with the silver in the Men’s Team Skeet, stands as a testament to their dedication and skill.” He emphasized the high level of competition in the skeet events and praised his athletes for their consistency and focus. Al Darwish also highlighted that the Arab Championship is an ideal preparatory platform ahead of the upcoming World Shotgun Championship in Greece, scheduled in just three weeks. He noted optimism for Qatar’s performance in the upcoming trap disciplines. The Qatari delegation features a comprehensive roster for both skeet and trap events. The Skeet Team includes Abdulaziz Al Attiya, Mohamed Al Kuwari, Rashid Saleh Al Athba, Masoud Saleh Al Athba, Hajar Ghulam Mohammed, Hajar Mohammed, Sarah Mohammed, and Aisha Al Ansari. Competing in the Trap Team are Mohamed Al Rumaihi, Angelo Scalzoni, Rashid Hamad Al Athba, Ray Basil, Khulood Al Khalaf, Maitha Al Binali, and Amna Al Abdullah. Serving alongside Al Darwish in a leadership capacity is Masoud Al Athba, Director of the Trap Shooting Program, who is providing logistical and technical support to the athletes as they continue their pursuit of excellence in Tangier. With strong momentum and eyes now fixed on the trap challenges ahead, Qatar’s shooting squad is poised to continue its medal-winning run at this prestigious Arab sporting competition. — Team V.DIR-EM-UAE
