Adrián Otaegui Achieves Historic Runner-Up Finish for UAE at the DP World Tour’s Volvo China Open
Adrián Otaegui delivered a landmark performance for UAE golf on the DP World Tour, finishing as runner-up at the Volvo China Open in Shanghai on Sunday. The tournament concluded with Bernd Wiesberger taking the top spot, earning his ninth DP World Tour title.
Otaegui began the tournament with composure, but it was his remarkable third-round 62 (-10) that shot him into the lead. He maintained his position at the top through the front nine during the final round. However, three costly mistakes on the back nine saw him slip to 16-under-par, while Wiesberger’s steady play led to victory at 19-under.
The runner-up position earned Otaegui an impressive 389 Race to Dubai points, moving him up 20 places to 13th in the current standings with a total of 816 points. This result further cements his strong form this season, following a third-place finish in Hainan and a sixth at the Joburg Open.
Selected by the Emirates Golf Federation in late 2024, Otaegui represents the UAE globally as a professional golfer. Having lived in the country for over 13 years, he also serves as an ambassador for the national team, contributing to player development and supporting the UAE People of Determination golf initiative since its launch in 2021.
Meanwhile, Wiesberger’s win lifted him to 16th in the Race to Dubai standings, bringing his total to 789 points.
The Volvo China Open marked the fourth event of the DP World Tour’s Asian Swing and was the 16th tournament of the 2026 season. This season’s global schedule includes at least 42 events across 25 countries, all aggregating points towards the Race to Dubai.
The season will wrap up in the UAE, beginning with the Abu Dhabi Championship at Yas Links (5th to 8th November 2026), which welcomes the top 70 players. The top 50 will then advance to the prestigious DP World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Golf Estates (12th to 15th November 2026).
