Muscat, July 22, 2025 — The Oman Football Association (OFA) has officially unveiled Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Oman national football team, marking a bold new chapter in the country’s footballing ambitions. The signing ceremony was held at the OFA’s Technical Department and the newly inaugurated national teams’ residence complex at Seeb Stadium.
The one-year agreement was signed by Sayyid Sulaiman bin Hamood al Busaidy, Chairman of the OFA, who expressed high hopes for the future under Queiroz’s leadership.
“We are proud to welcome a coach of Carlos Queiroz’s caliber,” said Sayyid Sulaiman. “His experience and vision align perfectly with our aspirations to reach the FIFA World Cup for the first time in our history. This is a strategic step forward for Omani football” .
Queiroz, 72, brings a storied résumé, having managed top national teams including Portugal, Iran, Egypt, Colombia, and most recently Qatar. His appointment comes as Oman prepares for the decisive AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to the FIFA World Cup 2026, set to take place in October in Doha.
“It is an honor to lead the Oman national team,” Queiroz said during the ceremony. “I see great potential in this squad and in the vision of the OFA. We will work with discipline, passion, and unity to achieve something historic for this country”.
Road to 2026- World Cup
Oman has been drawn into Group A alongside Qatar and the UAE. The matches will be played in a single round-robin format from October 8 to 14 at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha. Oman will face Qatar in the opening match on October 8, followed by a crucial encounter with the UAE on October 11.
Looking Ahead
A press conference is scheduled for August 5, where Queiroz will present his technical roadmap, training plans, and strategic goals for the national team.
