DP World Tour Launches 100-Day Countdown to UAE Playoff Showpieces
Golf fans have begun the official 100-day countdown to two of the most prestigious events on the global golfing calendar: the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. As excitement builds, preparations are intensifying for a spectacular season-ending playoff series set to bring the sport’s top talent to the United Arab Emirates.
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is set to make a triumphant return to Yas Links from 6th to 9th November 2025, marking its 20th anniversary as a premier international sporting fixture in the region. Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the DP World Tour, this tournament will inaugurate the DP World Tour Playoffs and will see the top 70 players in the Race to Dubai rankings compete.
The action will move to Dubai soon after, as the revered Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates hosts the DP World Tour Championship from 13th to 16th November 2025. Serving as the grand finale to the Race to Dubai season, the playoff will feature the top 50 players in the year’s standings, all vying for glory and the coveted title of Race to Dubai Champion—a crown Rory McIlroy secured for a record sixth time in 2024.
The dual hosting of these playoff events underlines the UAE’s global standing in the world of sports, especially in golf. Notably, Rory McIlroy—one of just a select few to claim all four titles in golf’s Grand Slam—has confirmed his participation in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, setting the stage for an electrifying start to this year’s Playoffs.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, highlighted the significance of the championship’s 20th consecutive edition:
“Hosting the championship on Yas Island not only enhances Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a global sporting hub but also aligns with our vision of delivering unforgettable sporting experiences to both residents and international visitors.” (Aref Hamad Al Awani)
Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, underscored the immense prestige of the looming Dubai finale:
“The DP World Tour Championship is more than just a golf event; it is one of the most prominent annual global sporting occasions hosted in Dubai.” (Saeed Hareb)
With both the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and the DP World Tour Championship about to spotlight the UAE as the beating heart of international golf, the 2025 playoff season is poised to deliver thrilling action and unforgettable moments.
