Abu Dhabi Powerboat Team Gears Up for UIM F2 World Championship Deciders in Portugal
The Abu Dhabi Powerboat Team is set to participate in the final two rounds of the UIM F2 World Championship, which will be staged in the Portuguese cities of Peso da Régua and Vila Velha. These closing contests mark rounds four and five of the championship and are expected to be pivotal in determining this season’s champion.
A “Qualifying Race” is scheduled for Saturday, acting as a precursor to the main race of the fourth round on Sunday. The championship finale will take place from 20th to 21st September, drawing the season to an exciting conclusion.
Representing the team are world champion Rashed Al Qemzi and his teammate Salem Al Yafei. Notably, this marks Al Yafei’s first season competing in this category, following his debut in the previous round held in Italy. The Abu Dhabi team delegation is headed by Nasser Al Dhaheri, Director of Marine Sports at the club, and includes Jumaa Al Qubaisi as “Radio Man”.
The previous round in San Nazzaro, Italy, was cancelled because of unstable water currents, which has left the championship standings “wide open.” Currently, France’s Peter Morin leads with 30 points, Sweden’s Helmer Aiberg follows with 24 points, and Britain’s Matthew Palfreyman is in third place with 22 points.
Thani Al Qemzi, Team Manager of Abu Dhabi, stated that taking part in the decisive rounds in Portugal is a “milestone” for the team this season. He highlighted the significance of a return to the podium, the need to secure crucial points, and the team’s goal to remain in title contention. The team’s intense preparations have centred on precise technical tuning of the boats.
The stage is now set for a dramatic finish to the UIM F2 World Championship, with the Abu Dhabi Powerboat Team determined to leave their mark as the season draws to a close.
