Kuwait Secures Hosting Rights for 2026 French Super Cup Clash Between PSG and Marseille
The Kuwait Football Association (KFA) has officially secured the rights to host the prestigious French Super Cup match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Olympique de Marseille on January 8, 2026 at Jaber Al-Ahmad Stadium.
In a formal signing ceremony, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yusuf Al-Sabah, President of the KFA, and Arnaud Rouger, Chairman of France’s Professional Football League (LFP), inked the hosting agreement. The event was highlighted by the presence of French Ambassador to Kuwait Olivier Gauvin and Marc Biolley, head of Matchworld Football, the organization managing logistics for the event.
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yusuf stated the initiative aligns with Kuwait’s broader objective “to organize major international sporting events,” citing directives from the country’s political leadership. A recent review mission from the LFP inspected Kuwait’s infrastructure and expressed satisfaction with facilities at Jaber Al-Ahmad, Jaber Al-Mubarak, and Ali Sabah Al-Salem stadiums.
He emphasized the match’s global prominence, pointing out that it will feature PSG, reigning champions of both the French League and the UEFA Champions League, alongside long-time rivals Marseille, known for their “technically skilled squad.”
The KFA announced it will soon release details regarding ticket sales and purchase outlets. In a bid to maximize global attendance, a partnership has been formed with Kuwait Airways, which will roll out special offers for fans traveling to the event.
Arnaud Rouger lauded Kuwait’s preparation and enthusiasm toward staging the match. He remarked, “The KFA submitted the best proposal to host the match,” further confirming that the French Football Federation will handle the appointment of referees given the “high-profile nature of the fixture.”
This upcoming edition of the French Super Cup, traditionally played outside France since 2009, marks a significant milestone for Kuwait as it continues to evolve into a regional hub for elite sporting events.
