UAE Jiu-Jitsu Team Shines at 9th Asian Championship in Jordan with 22 Medals
AMMAN, 27th May, 2025 – The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team concluded a stellar performance at the 9th Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Amman, Jordan, capping off its campaign in the Under-21 category with ten medals on the final day. This brought the country’s total medal count at the tournament to an impressive 22.
The squad secured three gold, two silver, and five bronze medals in the final day’s events, with standout performances underscoring the team’s technical prowess and strategic discipline. Gold medals were won by Mariam Al Ali (45kg), Rashed Mohammed Alshehhi (56kg), and Ammar Al Hosani (94kg), who delivered dominant performances against elite competition from across Asia.
Silver medals went to Aysha Alshamsi (45kg) and Alanood Alharbi (48kg), while bronze medals were awarded to Alanood Alhosani (57kg), Rashid Al Haimeini (+94kg), Saeed Alnuaimi (62kg), Ahmad Andeez (69kg), and Fahad Alhammadi (77kg).
The achievements were witnessed and celebrated by several UAE dignitaries including Hamad Al Matrooshi, Acting Chargé d’Affaires at the UAE Embassy in Amman, along with Khaled Al Ali and Aisha Al Shehhi of the UAE diplomatic corps.
“This achievement highlights the athletes’ technical maturity and mental focus, as well as their ability to succeed against top-level competitors across Asia. Our preparation included both local and international training camps focused on tactical and physical development — something that clearly paid off during the competition,” said Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
For the athletes, the victories represented more than just medals. It was an opportunity to represent the nation on one of the region’s biggest stages and raise the UAE flag high.
Rashed Mohammed Alshehhi, who clinched gold in the 56kg division, said, “The matches were not easy, especially the final, where I faced a highly skilled and experienced opponent.”
Mariam Al Ali, who dominated the 45kg division, reflected on the intensity of the competition, describing the diverse fighting styles as particularly challenging.
With this latest success, the UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team continues to affirm its rising status in the global jiu-jitsu scene and sets a strong foundation for continued progress.
