Khaled Al Shehhi Clinches Gold at Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Bangkok
BANGKOK, 4th November 2025 – UAE athlete Khaled Al Shehhi claimed the gold medal in the men’s 62kg division at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, marking another milestone in the UAE’s rapidly expanding legacy of international jiu-jitsu achievements.
With Al Shehhi’s victory, the UAE national team has increased its overall medal count to seven, now totaling four gold, one silver, and two bronze medals across both the men’s and women’s categories. This impressive haul underscores the country’s commitment to excellence in jiu-jitsu on the international stage.
The day’s competitions and medal ceremony saw the presence of prominent figures, including Obaid Saeed Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Thailand; Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF); Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; and Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations, as well as other officials and delegation representatives.
Al Shehhi delivered a commanding performance throughout the tournament, demonstrating outstanding technical skill and physical prowess. He overcame several top-ranked athletes in his division, earning high praise from both spectators and rivals alike. His success serves as a testament to the UAE’s continued investment in the development of jiu-jitsu and the high level of professional preparation provided to its national athletes.
The day also featured the official opening ceremony of the championship, attended by senior Thai government officials, JJIF representatives, and delegations from around the world. The event highlighted a parade of 60 national teams and brought together more than 4,000 athletes competing across men’s, women’s, Under-18, Under-21, Under-14, and Under-16 categories. The championship is scheduled to run through November 15 at Bangkok’s Huamark Indoor Stadium.
The UAE’s presence at the championship is substantial, with a delegation of 110 male and female athletes competing in various divisions, supported by a comprehensive team of technical, administrative, and medical staff. This broad participation aligns with the Federation’s strategy to broaden the international experience of athletes across all age levels.

The men’s competition is set to conclude tomorrow, with UAE athletes scheduled to compete in the 85kg and 94kg divisions as they look to further extend the team’s medal count and bolster their position atop the standings.
