KUWAIT — Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah welcomed International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Dr. Thomas Bach, IOC President-Elect Kirsty Coventry, and Saudi Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal at Bayan Palace on Sunday. The gathering was also attended by Kuwaiti Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
This high-level meeting was held in conjunction with Kuwait’s hosting of the 37th Meeting of the Presidents of Olympic Committees in the GCC Countries and the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia. The talks emphasized the strengthening of ties between the IOC and the Olympic family in Asia, especially within the Gulf region, as preparations are underway for a leadership transition with Kirsty Coventry set to assume the role of IOC President on June 23, 2025.
