136 PH Athletes to Join Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain The Philippines is set to send a delegation of 136 athletes to the upcoming 3rd Asian Youth Games, taking place from October 22 to 31 in Manama, Bahrain. This international event brings together the continent’s most talented teenage athletes and serves as a springboard for future Olympic and world championships contenders. According to Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, “We’ll field a compact team of promising athletes who are all potentially our future Olympic, world and regional champions.” Tolentino emphasized their hopes of replicating or even surpassing the country’s past success. In the 2013 edition of the Games in Nanjing, China, the Philippines took home two gold medals, earned by taekwondo’s Pauline Lopez and golfer Mia Legaspi, along with three silver medals. “We believe somebody from our 136 athletes will rise to the occasion to make a name for himself or herself. Opportunities are always there for us, and we believe our athletes will do whatever it takes to win,” Tolentino said. Ramon “Tats” Suzara, president of both the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), has been appointed as the chef de mission of Team Philippines. Leading the national delegation during the parade of nations at the Exhibition World Bahrain will be flag-bearers Leo Mhar Lobrido, a promising boxer, and Harlyn Serneche, a rising star in women’s volleyball. Serneche currently plays for Nazareth High School of the National University. The upcoming Games will host around 4,000 athletes from 45 Asian nations, competing in 223 events across 23 sports. Filipino athletes will see action in 16 disciplines, including volleyball, teqball, golf, triathlon, mixed martial arts, taekwondo, Muay Thai, athletics, boxing, cycling, weightlifting, table tennis, badminton, wrestling, aquatics, and jiu-jitsu. This participation underscores the country’s commitment to nurturing young talent and investing in its future champions on both the regional and global stage. Team V.DIR-EM-UAE
